1. Keyframes
Keyframes in Maya are located at the bottom of the window. They can be used for making certain things happen in your scene at particular times. To create a keyframe, simply press ‘S’ on your keyboard at the point at which you wish your object(s) to move.

2. Lighting
To create a light, go to Create>Lights, and select the type of light you wish to create. Be sure to click on the rectangle to the right of each option so that you can edit the properties of your light.

3. Camera
To create a camera, go to Create>Cameras and select the type of camera you wish to create. As with lights, be sure to click on the rectangle to the right of each camera so that you are able to edit the properties of your camera. Cameras can also be set on a specific path, for example, to orbit around an object or move along a corridor.
                             INTENDED APPLICATION
1. Film
Maya was used in the making of Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End in the creation of the character/monster, Davy Jones. Bill Nighy, the actor who portrays Davy Jones in the films, wore special makeup and white dots around the most important areas of his face, eg. mouth, nose and eyes so that these facial features could be mapped onto the corresponding features on the character's face.

2. Games
Maya was used in the making of The Last of Us to create the 3D environments that the player/character moves around in. Because all recent video games are animated, the whole game environment needs to be modelled. Another big game that was created with Maya is Grand Theft Auto.
3. Advertising
Maya could be used in the advertising industry to showcase a planned product. For example, an entrepreneur or company may 3D model a product in Maya, and then use this to show potential investors or advertise to the public. This saves valuable materials, time and money which are required if a physical version of the product was being made. Using 3D modelling as an option saves these things, and also allows time to easily edit the product if needed.

                                MODELLING PROCESS
1. Polygon
To create a polygon, go to Create>Polygon Primitives, and then select the shape you wish to create. Another way to create a shape is to tick ‘Interactive Creation’ which allows you to draw the shape you have selected yourself. This shape can then be moved around the scene and edited.

2. Extruding
To extrude a shape, click the ‘Extrude’ tool in the centre of the tools bar. This tool allows you to ‘pull’ a face of your shape out of the original object, as shown in the image. However, before extruding you must enter ‘face’ mode – please see next section.

3. Faces, Vertices & Edges
To edit different parts of your shape, you must first be in the correct mode. To select these different modes, hold right-click, and the following menu will appear. This menu allows you to select different parts of your shape; edge, vertex, or face mode. You can also choose to select your whole shape by going to Object Mode.
